Lessons are run from Peninsula Canoe Club on the Sandvlei estuary in Lakeside. All equipment such as Boats, Paddles and Life jackets are supplied during the lessons. The canoes we use for our courses are designed for complete novices and are very stable. Then as you progress we will slowly move you into slightly more testing boats. Anyone who is able to swim can paddle and there are no age limits to our courses.
Canoeing is an Olympic discipline and we live in one of the best parts of the world for the sport and have a number of world class races and events held locally every year so there are endless opportunities with the sport. One of the real attractions for canoeing is the fact that it can be done any time and in just about all weather conditions. Canoeing is a low impact sport so if you’re looking to get super fit or just wanting to learn a new sport while having fun then canoeing is for you!
What to bring: All Life jackets, Paddles and boats are supplied. There are basic ablutions facilities at the club so it is advised that you bring some warm dry clothes to put on afterwards. As canoeing is a water sport we do tend to get a little wet so try not to wear much baggy clothing as this might restrict you while you’re paddling. Reservations are essential as space is limited. We look forward to seeing you on the water!
